Vicki, I had my pap come back as low, then high grade and then after colposcopy, it came back as cancer. I never had HPV. I will say this, if it already is cancer, they would have told her after her results from the colp.

I just had my second cone biopsy last week, the first removed a 20mm depth. They removed all the cancerous cells, but wanted to remove all the precancerous (dysplasia) cells, so they went in a second time.

I know it's hard not to worry, but the medical advances for cervical cancer are amazing. If you're in Canada, I'd recommend Dr. Covens at Sunnybrook in Toronto.

That being said, a Cone isn't that bad, they freeze your cervix, which is a pinprick, not painful, and then when you're frozen they do what they need to do. Bleeding for me lasted 3 weeks the first time. Tylenol or Advil work for the cramping.

Best of luck!

Jane, I'm a medical assistant @ a GYN and assist the Dr with colposcopys. I wanted to let you know that HPV can lay dormant in your system, pop up & make your pap smear wacky, then later go dormant. Depending on what your lab results show, your doctor may monitor by having you return for a repeat pap smear in 3 months or a LEEP or Cryo.procedure to remove any worrisome areas of the cervix. I hope this helped clarify a bit.

Hi I am writing on behalf of my daughter. She will be turning 21 on January 16 of 2012. Recently she had a abnormal pap smear and a had a colopsy done and found that she has severe dysplasia. So she is now scheduled to have a conization done at the end of January. I am just beside my self. I had her get the guardisil shots when she was a teen. Can anyone give me some words of encouragement? Could this be cancer? or would have that already showed on the biopsy? Oh dear, I am just soooo worried.

Over the last few months, I've had abnormal bleeding, a regularly sore bladder after drinking liquids along with a very frequent trips to the toilet and a range of other symptoms. I went to the Doctors for smear test and was then referred to the Gyno Clinic for a Colonoscopy test. This showed White Patches on my cervix and a small cut/abrasion which was bleeding slightly. I was also told I have the HPV virus. A biopsy was done and sent to the lab. I am currently waiting for the results to come back which will be in 3-4 weeks. I also have the Mirena Coil which was fitted around 2 years ago. I have had the same sexual partner for 17 years, and no others. At this stage I am not worried, but very puzzled about the HPV because for the past 2 years since having the Coil, myself and husband have been using extra protection just in case I got pregnant on the coil. Its the first time I've been through this so any information from anyone would be really appreciated. It's nice to share and hear others people experiences. Thanks!.

I'd just like to say thank you to all of you for sharing your stories. It makes me feel far less alone in all of this. :)

I just had cryosurgery less than two hours ago for a high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion they found on my cervix. It's the second time I've had to have cryosurgery (first time was when I was 19, and now I'm 28), and this time, it's much worse. The doctor said he'll probably have to do a LEEP in a few months after I've healed.

I'm terrified.

Any advice?

Cass -
Have you contacted Planned Parenthood?
You may also qualify for Medicaid, as you have been given a diagnosis and don't have any insurance (assuming your income is low).
When I needed a mammogram, I contacted Susan G. Komen Foundation about getting their help to get one. They put me in touch with a free program and a social worker at a local hospital, who got me my regular exams (pap & mammo) and then follow-up colpo. Fortunately, I didn't need further care, but the social worker told me that if I had, Medicaid has a fast-track authorization for people who have certain conditions. Maybe you could contact hospitals or some women's health centers to see if they can give you some assistance or suggestions. You might even try contacting the Medicaid office directly.
I hope this information will be helpful to you. I am so sorry you are going through this, and wish you good luck and improved health.

Cass~ My advice to you, find a different doctor ASAP! I found out in 2008 that I had a 5cm cyst on my right ovary and because I did not have insurance at the time, nothing was done about it. A few months later, I felt bad pain around my right ovary, went to the ER and found out it had grown to 11cm. Still because of no insurance, nothing was done about it. Just recently (December of 2010) I got on my counties insurance program so I could go have the cyst removed. They did a pap and found I have HPV that progressed into CIN3. I had surgery 2 months ago to try and remove the cyst alone (and the precancerous cells on my cervix). Sadly, because the cyst was there for so long, it caused adhesions and they had to remove my right ovary and tube along with the cyst. Don't wait, find a different doctor!

The dr said i had mild cervical cancer and they just wanted to watch it, but i also have cysts on my ovaries and endometriosis. The doctor refused to do anything and said i would be fine and ignores that i am in tears hurting so bad alot on my right side. It feels like somebody is stabbing me and I dont know what to do he gave me ibuprofen for the pain but that is a joke it DOESNT help at ALL. What do I do I dont have insurance and am so tired of being in pain. I was gonna pay for everything but they refuse to treat me.. VERY AGGRIVATED AND NEED SOME ADVICE AND GUIDANCE ON WHAT TO DO?????????
