Each gallery showcases a series of photos of different women’s cervices. There are no external genitalia visible in any of the photos, but they are all taken by using a speculum to open the vagina to view the cervix. Please view at your discretion.

I’ve been following this website for a couple years in trying to understand my body more. I feel it has helped me conceive my first son just by comparing sight to feel of my cervix. Now since having my son my cervix is totally different. I keep watching/hoping for an entry for the entire cycle of a woman who’s had armrest one vaginal birth. Any of those on the horizon???

It may be beginning to soften or shorten in preparation for labor (effacement).

I have a question how does it look like after you had an abortion and clamedia is there any changes ?
[Reply]
Does the cervix feel more like an elongated tube or a ball? I can reach around my cervix and I feel like it protrudes into my vagina. I can probably feel about 2 inches of it. Is that normal?

Sounds normal to me. The cervix is the tip of the uterus that protrudes into the vaginal canal, so you can sweep your fingers all the way around it.
[Reply]
in fact great job, i really like the good work u are doing it helps some of us to know where we can find the cervix. i will always be on your website to learn more.

i was wonder if its normal to have what looks like old blood come out after period. This is not normal for me and I just had my fourth baby and a tubular 6 months ago. Should I be worried about something?

Yes, you can feel it by inserting your finger into your vagina and feeling for a little nub at the back of your vagina that is a little harder than the squishy vaginal walls. You won’t be able to see it though without a speculum.

I love this site.
From all the sites I go to about my cervix and conception…this has been the most helpful.
So here is a kanundrum for you…
I have PCOS, so very irregular periods.
I know my cervix pretty darn well and do BBT every morning at 6am…so what do you think about this…
S:1/2,1/6,1/7,1/8,1/9
BBT: steady at 98.2+ for a week after S.
BBT: peaks at 98.9 and stay up in 98′s for two weeks.
No mens…but, I have usually have one every 6 months.
CF: creamy and white..light spotting 1 month after S.
cervix super high, almost can not reach…super soft, gooey, wet and slippery…closed.
I can USUALLY feel my opening and feel all around it…now, it is almost…hiding and tipped back…with not possible feeling of an opening present.
Tested twice in the last three weeks..all negative.
What do you think?

I was wondering if it was normal to have bright red blood on my glove after a cervical check? I am 38 weeks pregnant.

Yes. That is very normal (I am a midwife). Bright blood after stimulation is a sign that your cervix is effacing (thinning) and beginning to dilate. Good Job! By now you have possibly had your baby, but I hope that’s helpful.

I just wanted to say I am excited to see that you have worked more on the site and have grown so much. I was hoping to see more from you!!
[Reply]
Out of curiosity, could you do more on CM. Its one thing to see the CM on the cervix but its another to see what it looks like on your finger after checking your cervix. The reason I ask is because I often time get confused about consistency etc. I am not sure if its because I dont have regular cycles and rarely ovulate or if its more common. Just an idea. Thank you for all you do. It is so helpful!

The depth of the cervix in the vagina varies between women and during a cycle and can sometimes be only a few cm inside the opening. If it is sticking out of your vagina, I suggest you see a doctor about a potential prolapse:

I am 34 weeks pregnant. I have been having some cramps and pressure so thought id check my cervix for the first time. This is my 3rd pregnancy. When trying to find it, I tried various positions and couldnt find anything other then a squishy flap like bit of tissue? and if I pressed back, I could feel something very big, round and hard which i am sure was babies head. how on earth can I feel my cervix? If I can feel it, does this mean I have no changes to my cervix which would mean labour would be soon? thanks

It can be hard to reach your cervix in later pregnancy – often it is in a posterior position (meaning in deep and pointing towards your back). The flap may have been your cervix – its hard to say from your description. If it was roundish and had a little hole/dimple in it, it may have been. Sorry I can’t be of more help….

At it’s lowest I can feel my cervix at 4cms from the opening, please can you tell me if this is normal? It rises to 6cms briefly when at it’s highest. I have always had some slight trouble putting tampons in (ie have presumably been hitting the cervix) but had never felt the location of my cervix until very recently and since having my first baby 4 months ago. Thank you, your site is very interesting.

I am 52 and my doctor told me my cervix was closed on my last exam. He said I am in menopause now. He also took me off Yaz which I was using to keep my moods “reasonable” during my cycle. It’s been less than a month since I stopped Yaz and I haven’t had any menopausal symptoms. Can anyone let me know what to expect? I don’t see any pics of a closed cervix on this site. Is a closed cervix normal? My doctor didn’t seem concerned about this. I did have endometrial cells on my pap and he wants me to come back for an endometrial biopsy next month. He wasn’t very concerned about this either and he made this test sound rather routine. Please share your comments and experiences. Thank you. Kind Regards, Cheryl

Hi I’m 29. I was bad at taking the pill when I was young and I’m quite sure that I would have been pregnant. I liked to sleep around. Any way I am now much better and married. Trying to have a baby my partner of 4 years and had my implant taken out 18 months ago. I have never exploited myself in this way. Am I able to have babies? Does it sound unlikely that I can and it’s there any way I could find out myself? My cycle is 30-40 days. Varying as it likes is this normal?
I’m very concerned thanks

I have a question about the cervix.. I have been searching online and I get so many different answers. How far up is the cervix? During period.. middle of the month ..when ovulating? How low does it have to be before I should be worried? I feel it lower when I have my period. It feels really soft a week after my period?

Most likely its a cervical polyp or cyst, but you should get it looked at just in case. Way to take your healthcare into your own hands!

OK I recently had a surgery after being in a bullriding accident, they removed my spleen and appendix, I have 3 fractured ribs, both lungs collapsed but anyway I also have cervical dysplasia, my question is, is I weighed right at 80lbs last week and I’m 4’9″ and 19 yrs old, could I possibly get pregnant right now with pain medicine in my system as well? I have been lactating I’m not sure if its from the IV fluids in the hospital but that was almost a month ago, then I started spotting April 29 literally once a day just barely enough for a pantyliner until may 1. I took 3 tests last week and the week before bth said negative. I’ve been nauseated, loss of appetite, my sex drive has gone up. I have 2 kids a 3 year old and a 7 month old. Any tips? Or comments?

I had a abdominal myomectomy in february, and I noticed a significant change on my cervix size. It use to be just like the top part of my thumb and now it seems to be half of my thumb size. I wonder if it is normal. My doctor checked but I need a second opinion..

I have been trying to check my cervix for about 5 days due to the fact that I had unprotected sex about a week ago. it was during my menstural cycle so I thought that would be safer. after finally finding it haha, my cervix has a dimple in it and is down like you have described. I am a nursing student and have learned about the cervix closing and the mucus plug and everything so I am extremely paranoid since I am not usually sexually active. I was wondering if you could tell me how to tell if it is closed or open because I do feel the slit but i dont know if when its closed I’d still feel it or not. or if it’s even too early to feel a difference. It’s about a week and a half after unprotected sex. Any advice would be great.

Hi , I was wandering if you could help, me and my partner had sex tonight and I had a really sharp pain on my right I nearly cried it hurt so bad and it still hurts now, after searching the Internet I stumbled across your website and thanks to all the info u believe what hurt was him hitting my uterus because he described what it felt like and it sounds the same, but should I be worried that it hurt so much, I should probably add that this is my first month of us trying for our third child so I’m hoping you’ll be able to shed some light
Thank you

Wow,….I can not believe, I have never taken the initiative to learn and see, more intimately such a beautiful female part. I was really worried that I had lost a tampon inside and panicked, only because of my ignorance regarding the vagina internally.
I can see now that it is impossible to lose a tampon inside and not feel or find it.
I have had very heavy, crampy feelings within, weeks before my period, during and still after, so I thought I had left a tampon inside, but after feeling around I couldnt detect a string or tampon, though felt my cervix, the tip and around, not realising it was my cervix until now…!.
Thanks for the site.

This is very interesting but I still don’t get how the pictures are taken? Is it really that easy to just open up an snap a pic?? Also, o had a miscarriage on July 13th -about 2 months ago an I found out that im pregnant… but I have been cramping heavily again this time just like last…. the receptionist over the phone at my ob just tells me its normal but can cramps this bad be normal? I’m afraid of having another miscarriage.

Its not a big opening and when feeling with your finger, it may just feel like a little dent in the center of it – hardly noticeable at most times during the cycle.
