Age 27 – Partial Cycle

This is the cervix of a 27 year old woman who gave birth vaginally six years ago.

She has been on and off hormonal contraceptives since age 16, prescribed both for birth control and for regulating cramps. She has most recently been on the NuvaRing for about 3 years. Since hormonal contraception interferes with the natural balance and interplay of the hormones of the menstrual cycle, many women experience a hormonal imbalance for months or years after taking them. The pill may have been masking underlying conditions or signs of aging; this can present as irregular cycles, anovulation, blood sugar irregularities, increase in PMS, difficulty conceiving, and thinner uterine linings. This woman’s cycles are irregular; the last few cycles have been 38, 51, and 75 days long.

She has empowered herself to learn to track her menstrual cycle to help her conceive again. She is currently taking Dong Quai and Royal Jelly to help regulate her cycles.
