Age 32 – mid-cycle
This is the cervix of a 32 year old woman. The photo was taken about midway through a menstrual cycle. There is some white, milky cervical fluid visible near the cervix and in the os.
Notice the folded ridges of the vaginal rugae on the sides of her vagina which help the vagina expand during arousal and childbirth, like an accordion.
She has never had any STIs and has always used barrier methods for birth control. She had a baby nine years ago. During labor, she dilated to 8 cm and then she had a cesarean section. Her cervix is a slit shape, which is a result of the tissue stretching during dilation.
